Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's basketball team snapped an eight year winless streak against Yeshiva, by defeating the Maccabees on their home court 61-58 Monday night. The Privateers evened their record at 2-2 while Yeshiva dropped to 1-3.
After extending the lead to 16 with 15 minutes to play, the Privateers ran into a tough stretch where they scored only 4 points in ten minutes. Ahead by only two with 3 minutes to play, Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglas) hit a crucial three pointer to bring the momentum back to the Privateers. However, with only .7 remaining on the clock, Yeshiva stole an inbound pass under their basket and the last second attempt to tie the game bounced off the rim, giving Maritime their first victory over Yeshiva in 8 years.
Jamal Webb (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) (Tuckahoe, NY/Tuckahoe) led the Privateers with 20 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 9-20 from the field in 33 minutes. Jermelle Fraser (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) came off the bench and gave the Privateers 16 points and 3 assists, making 4-5 shots and 5-6 from the charity line. As a team, Maritime shot 42% from the field and 46% from behind the arc. The defense caused 16 turnovers and out-rebounded the Maccabees 39-27.
The Privateers will be on the road at rival King's Point on Thursday at 7PM.
