THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's basketball team hosted Maine Maritime in the opening round of the Maritime Tip-Off and captured a 68-52 victory.  This was the opening season game for both teams, moving the Privateers into the Championship game on Saturday.

Down by only 1 at the half (32-31), the Privateers came out in the second half and outscored the Mariners 37-20.  Joe Bracaglia (Jamaica, NY/Martin Van Buren) scored all of his 13 points in the second half on 6-11 shooting.  Junior transfer Rahshawn Pringle (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglas) (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglas) led the team with 21 points.  Nine Privateers scored on the evening.

Tough defense helped win the game, as seen by Maritime's 12 steals and 3 blocked shots.  The defense limited the Mariners to 32% shooting from the field, and a dismal 18% in the second half (5-27 shooting).

Of his first victory as a head coach, Coach Jody King said of his team, "I am very proud of the hard work and effort put forth by the student athletes that represent the team, and the community that represents Maritime. "

The Privateers will host Coast Guard, who defeated California Maritime, in the Championship game at 8:00 PM.
