Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime men's soccer team defeated Mount Saint Mary's at home in the Skyline Conference quarterfinals 3-1 to advance into the semi-finals. The third seeded Privateers will travel to the second seeded Panthers of Old Westbury on Thursday for a 2:30 p.m. game.
Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored 25 minutes into the game, for his 22nd goal of the season, and later scored his 23rd to help the Privateers to the win. Nelson came into the game as the 5th ranked player in division III in points per game (2.72) and 8th in goals per game (1.17). His teammate, Patrick Masango (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba) (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba), came into the game as the 13th ranked player in goals per game (1.05). Masango scored the Privateer's second goal of the game.
Assists came from three different players; Emilio Andino (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) (Roselle, NY/Abraham Clark), Victor Sanchez (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove), and Melih Akyildiz (Eskisehir, Turkey).
The Privateer's traveled to Old Westbury a week ago, and fell 2-0. The Panthers received a bye into the semi-finals after they finished the regular season as the 2nd seeded team.
