Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY - The Privateer football team went on the road and fell to Becker College 28-14 this past Saturday. Maritime falls to 2-7 on the season.
Running Back Ben Swedish (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) put the Privateers ahead early, with a 2 yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the game. The score was set up by Michael Smooke (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake (FL))'s (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake) 34 yard pass to Marc Kunchev (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) (Angola, NY/Lake Shore). That was the only score for either team in the first quarter.
Becker tied the game in the secnd quarter, on an 8 yard touchdow toss. The 7-7 haltime tie was broken with 5 minutes to go in the third quarter, when Becker QB Gabriel Prophet threw for his second score, this time from 45 yards out. Prophet thre two more TD passes (51 and 33 yards) before Maritime scored with 5 seconds left in the game. Swedish punched in his second score of the afternoon from 1 yard out.
Ben Swedish led both teams in rushing yards with 176, and a long of 42. Michael Smooke (Land O'Lakes, FL/East Lake (FL)) threw for 82 yards on 6-15 passing.
The Privateers final game of the season will be next weekend at Gallaudet University, beginning at Noon.
