THROGGS NECK, NY – The Coast Guard Bears came out strong in the opening minutes, and outplayed the Privateers, defeating Maritime 5-1 and ending their 6 game win streak. The Bears improved to 9-4-1, while Maritime dropped to 12-5.

Thomas Cameron opened the Bears' scoring a minute into the game, on a header that was sent into the box by Peter Deneen. Cameron scored for the second time 12 minutes later, assisted by Deneen and Ben Weber. Only 20 seconds after their second goal, the Bear's offense outplayed the goalkeeper and Deneen added his first of three consecutive goals, all within 14 minutes of play.

At the 33 minute mark, Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) sent a touch pass to freshman forward Patrick Masango (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba) (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba) who split the defenders and touched the ball to a streaking Anuar Romero (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) for Maritime's only goal of the game.

The second half was a defensive battle and both teams managed only 12 shots total. Tim Olah got the win for the Bears in net, while Matt Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (Penfield, NY/Penfield) took the loss.

Maritime travels to Old Westbury on Wednesday for the first of two conference games that will determine the top seed of the Skyline tournament. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
