The Maritime Rugby team traveled to Montclair State College this past Sunday to play a tough rugby game that would put Maritimes strength and endurance to the test. The Game started out by Montclair punching in two tries, almost one after another, catching Maritime off guard. But then the Maritime Ruggers gained their feet and stonewalled Montclair for the remainder of the game denying them any more opportunities to score. Maritime's Maik Atlas (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon) and Luigi Small (/) then scored two tries, followed by a kick by Toomey to win the game. Unparallel efforts were shown by Maritime Rugger's, Merzlak, Valentino, Shelly and Small, Defending Maritimes try zone and rallying the rest of the team to keep fighting to the last minute of the game.
The Maritime Ruggers would also like to exonerate the Maritime Forward tight head prop John Donohue (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) who led the Ruggers with some very strong runs, damaging Montclair's strong lines and providing the opportunity for the Forwards to gain control for remainder of the game.
This is the Second consecutive win of the season for the Maritime Rugby team, who the week before defeated Bard College 36-3.
The Next game will be a home game October 14th at 1:00 pm. Against William Patterson College.
All are encouraged to attend.
