Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY - The SUNY Maritime Privateer men's soccer team won their 5th straight contest, this time defeating Farmingdale 3-2 on the Rams' home field. Maritime improved to 11-4 (6-0) and stands alone at the top of the conference.
The conference's leading scorer, Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington), had a pair of goals in the beginning of the second half, and the defense held strong the final 35 minutes to seal the win. Nelson's freshman teammate Patrick Masango (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba) (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba), who came into the game tied with Nelson for the conference lead in goals scored, had a goal of his own 30 seconds into the second half. Nelson and Masango were the only two players to record shot for the Privateers.
Matthew Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) recorded the win for the Privateers, seeing only two shots and saving one. Harris Papson (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) (Flushing, NY/Francis Lewis) played a key role in the Privateer win, replacing Kavanaugh and making 4 saves in almost 30 minutes played.
The Privateers will host Bard on Saturday at 6PM. With a win on Saturday, the Privateers will clinch a spot in the conference playoffs.
