Women's Soccer Nets First Conference Victory

THROGGS NECK, NY- The Privateer women's soccer team earned their first victory of the season, with a solid 5-2 win over the Maccabees of Yeshiva University.  Maritime's record now stands at 1-8-0 (1-3-0) while Yeshiva falls to 0-4-0 (0-4-0.)

Maritime's 5 goals were all scored by different players.  Kelly Fitzpatrick (Annapolis, MD/Mount de Sales) (Annapolis, MD/Mount De Sales) opened up the scoring with a breakaway down the field with less than 25:00 minutes in the first half for her second goal of the season.  Less than five minutes later, Christina George (Southold, N.Y./Southold) (Southold, NY/ Southold) notched her first collegiate career goal after dribbling through several Yeshiva defenders for the shot.  Yeshiva answered back in the beginning of the second half, scoring on their own breakaway, leaving the score at 2-1.  However, Maritime answered right back with 2 goals of their own.  Kelly Carroll (Bethany Beach, Del./Indian River) (Bethany Beach, DE/ Indian River) had a shot deflected in to earn her second goal of the season and Heather Christiansen (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) had a nice chip shot over the goalie's head for her first goal this year.  Although Yeshiva scored again on a breakaway with less than 15:00 minutes left in the game, making the score 4-2, Maritime was not to be outdone and Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) (Blairstown, NJ/ North Warren Regional) netted the final goal of the game, making the final score of the game 5-2.

Maritime's next game will be Saturday, October 13th versus Polytechnic University at 12:00 pm at Polytechnic.
