Box Score THROGGS NECK, NY – The SUNY Maritime men's soccer team shut out the visiting Maccabees of Yeshiva 6-0 to remain unbeaten in Skyline play, and move their win streak to 3 games. The Privateers stand at 9-4 (4-0) while Yeshiva drops to 0-4 (0-3).
Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored 4 times in the match, a season high for one player in a single game. He opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game, and added his second goal 10 minutes later to give the Privateers a 3-0 halftime lead. Patrick Masango (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba) (Baltimore, MD/Phs Kumba) scored the Privateers' second goal of the game, off a pass from Anuar Romero (Roselle, NJ/Roselle) (Roselle, NJ/Roselle).
10 minutes into the second half, Nelson took a shot that was initially saved by the Yeshiva defense, but a costly error off the foot of a defender sent the ball into the Yeshiva goal. Six minutes later, Nelson bent a corner kick around the goalie and into the back of the net for his fourth and final goal of the night. He later assisted on Masango's second goal of the night, before they both came out of the game for the second string.
Both Nelson and Masango were tied for the conference lead in total goals and goals per game coming into tonight's contest.
Seth Schlessel and Charles Kattan were the only Yeshiva players to register a shot on goal. Danny Rosenthal took the loss in net. Matt Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (Penfield, NY/Penfield) recorded the win for the Privateers, stopping 2 shots.
