Privateer's Kelly scores 21, but Maritime falls to Mariners, 90-66

Throggs Neck, NY – Sophomore guard Kenneth Kelly (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) (Belle Harbor, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored a team high 21 points but would be outdone by his older brother Bran Kelly (Belle Harbor, NY/Archbishop Molloy), a senior forward for the Merchant Marine Academy, who scored a game high 26 points to lead his Mariners over the Privateers, 90-66 in Skyline Conference men’s basketball action Tuesday evening at Maritime College.  
 
The Privateers (2-13, 1-5) trailed by just five at the half, but the Mariners (7-6, 3-2) came out on fire in the second half, sinking 9-of-11 shots from beyond the arc led by sophomore guard Pat Grace (Ellicott City, MD/Cardinal Gibbons) who scored 17 points in the half on 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range.
 
Junior forward Michael Stolberg (Bayside, N.Y./Holy Cross) (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) had a solid game, shooting 3-of-4 from downtown and 4-of-4 from the free throw line to score 15 points and added five rebounds. Sophomore forward Timothy Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) added 12 points for the Privateers and junior guard Lamar Fields (Bronx, NY/Rice) had 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench.  
 
Mariner freshman guard Chad Ray (Carrollton, TX/Carrollton Creekview) scored 14 points, shooting 4-of-4 from downtown, while fellow freshman Max Paul (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson) contributed 12 points and six boards.  
 
The Privateers return to action on Thursday, January 18 when they will travel to Newburgh, NY to take on the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary College in the two team’s only meeting of the season. Tip-off is slated for 7:00pm from the Kaplan Center on the campus of Mount Saint Mary College.
