Privateers defeat Purchase for second straight win

Throggs Neck, NY – The Privateer women’s volleyball team finished with a season high 23 aces to win their second straight game, defeating the Panthers of Purchase College 3-0 [30-26, 30-18, 30-16] in a non-conference match Wednesday night at Riesenberg Gymnasium at Maritime College.
 
Junior setter Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) led the serving assault with a game high eight aces and also finished with five kills and two digs. Fellow junior, Jeanette Golson (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) had a career and game high, eight kills while juniors Jamie Gleber (Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) (Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) and Marissa Webber-Bey (Far Rockaway, NY/Fashion Industries) each finished with five aces and three kills. Freshman setter Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, NY/Lima Christian School) led the Privateers in assists with 10 and also contributed with four aces.
 
Tonight’s victory improves Maritime to 3-8 on the year and gives the team their first home victory since October 20, 2005.
 
The Privateer women’s volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, September 30, when they host Brooklyn College in a 1pm match at Riesenberg Gymnasium.
