Throggs Neck, NY – Sophomore attack Donald Toby (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) had an incredible game, scoring three goals and assisting on four to help lift the Privateers of Maritime College over the Valiants of Manhattanville College, 12-8 Wednesday night in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse conference game on the campus of Maritime College.

Tonight’s game was a back and forth battle that lasted three periods. Maritime broke out to an early three goal lead by the mid point in the second period. However, Manhattanville would answer back with two goals including a shot by sophomore attack Ryan Kuhn (Copiaque, NY) with just one second left in the first half.

Trailing by two goals early in the third, Manhattanville would fight back and tie the game up on two occasions, the later of which sent the game into the final period with a 5-5 tie. Starting things off in the right direction, the Valiants took their first lead of the game on an unassisted man-up goal by sophomore attack Luke Dorfman (Freeport, NY) with 14:31 left to go in the game. However, their lead would not last for long as the Privateers quickly took control of the game by scoring five unanswered goals, two while playing with an extra man advantage. Each team would score two more in the final minute of play, including a shot by sophomore midfielder Tom Freeman (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) that hit the back of the net with just 1.6 left in the game.

Senior attack Kevin Swift (New Market, MD/Linganore) (New Market, MD/Linganore) had yet another solid outing for the Privateers with three goals and two assists, in the final home performance of his career. Maritime also got contributions from junior midfielder Sean Kennedy (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony’s) who finished with two goals, freshman Keith Fricke (White Plains, NY/White Plains) (White Plains, NY/White Plains) and Freeman each added a goal and an assist and freshmen James Buttafuoco (Williston Park, NY/Holy Trinity) (Willistone Park, NY/Holy Trinity) and Ryan Dickau (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) each scored a goal. Toby also won each of the three face-offs he took and added three ground balls ranking him eight in the nation in ground balls per game, now with 6.9 a game.

Freshman Joseph Fasano (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) had a huge game in net for the Privateers, finishing with 25 saves, stopping a host of quality shots coming from the Valiant offense. This was by far the best performance of his career. Freshman goal keeper Tim Gorman (Floral Park, NY) finished out the day with 20 saves and gave up 12 goals in a valiant effort in net for Manhattanville.

Tonight’s win improves the Privateers to 3-8 on the year and 2-5 in the conference. They will now travel across the Throggs Neck Bridge to take on long time rival, Kings Point in their last game of the season. That game is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm from the Captain James Harvey Tomb Field on the campus of the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in Kings Point, NY on Saturday, April 22nd.
