Box Score New York, NY – Rebounding from a tough loss in their season opener, the Privateers of Maritime College defeated the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent, 17-8 in men’s lacrosse action Tuesday evening at the Herman Goldman Center located on the campus of the City College of New York.
It wouldn’t take long for the Privateers to get on the scoreboard as senior attack
Kevin Swift (New Market, MD/Linganore) (New Market, MD/Linganore) scored just 29 seconds into the game. Trailing 4-0 midway though the first period, senior attack
Brendan Dunbar (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) took the ball coast-to-coast for a solo goal to put the Dolphins on the board with 7:39 left to play.
Following Dunbar’s goal, Maritime went on a 3-1 run to end the period. Swift was the high man in the first period, scoring four goals and adding two assists. Mount Saint Vincent’s second goal was scored with just one second left in the period by sophomore attack Jason Reynolds (Centereach, NY/Middle Country).
Heading into the second half with a 9-4 lead, the Privateers unloaded for five goals to the Dolphins one in the third period and each team would score three goals in the final period bringing the final to 17-8.
Kevin Swift (New Market, MD/Linganore) had a solid all around game scoring six goals and providing three assists for the Privateers. Sophomore midfielder
Donald Toby (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) scored four goals and assisted on two, while senior midfielder
Sean Kennedy (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony’s) netted three goals and provided one assists.
Although playing in only the first half, junior goal keeper
Tim O’Hara (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) is awarded the win for today’s game. In 30 minutes of play, O’Hara allowed just four goals after picking up four saves. Freshman
Joseph Fasano (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage), who started in goal against Catholic, came on in the second half to stop eight shots and allowed just four goals as well. Sophomore
Tom Egan (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) had 19 saves and gave up 17 goals after facing 48 shots in all four periods in net for the Dolphins.
Maritime’s next match-up, which pits the Privateers against the Quakers of Guilford College, will be played on Saturday, March 11th from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. That game, which will be a home game for the Privateers, is set to begin at 1:00pm from one of the fields within the walls of the Naval Academy. Stay tuned
