Box Score Throggs Neck, NY – The Maritime men’s lacrosse team opened up the 2006 season Sunday afternoon with a tough 13-7 loss to the Cardinals of the Catholic University of America. The Privateers fell behind early on, trailing 7-2 at the half, but would battle back in the final period scoring four goals in a five minute span. However, the late surge wouldn’t be enough to carry the Privateers over Catholic as the dropped their season opener.
Senior attack Connor Kelly ( Milton, MA/Boston College), led the way for the Cardinals with four goals and three assists. Fellow senior attack Terence Kempf (Glenside, PA/LaSalle) added three goals and three assists of his own.
Freshman attack
Dan Roach (Edgewood, MD/Edgewood) (Edgewood, MD/Edgewood), was the high man for the Privateers with two goals. Senior attack
Kevin Swift (New Market, MD/Linganore) (New Market, MD/Linganore) assisted on three goals and scored one as well.
It was a rough day in net for goal keeper
Joseph Fasano (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage), who made his collegiate debut. Although he gave up 13 goals, Fasano still made several great saves as he finished out the day with 22 saves after facing 47 shots. Sophomore
Greg Kavazanjian (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) gets the decision in net for the Cardinals only allowing seven goals and stopping 13 of the 28 shots he faced.
The Privateers return to action on Tuesday when they hit the road to take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent, the game is being played at the City College of New York and is scheduled to begin at 3:30pm.
