Duo of Fricke & Swift lead Privateers over Cyclones

Throggs Neck, NY – Senior attack Kevin Swift (New Market, MD/Linganore) (New Market, MD/Linganore) and freshman attack Keith Fricke (White Plains, NY/White Plains) (White Plains, NY/White Plains) became a veteran/rookie tag team on Saturday afternoon scoring four goals a piece and combining for three assists leading the Privateers to victory over the Cyclones of Centenary College 13-11 in a Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference showdown in the Bronx.
 
After sitting at one goal tie after the first period, Maritime took control of the game in the second scoring four unanswered goals and totaled eight goals in the period. Leading the charge for the Privateers was the freshman from White Plains who scored three of his four goals in a three minute time frame. Maritime would head into the half with a 9-5 lead, the Privateers are undefeated so far this season when heading into the second half with a lead.
 
Centenary freshman attack Nate Small (Great Mills, MD/Leonardtown), ignited the Cyclones in the second half with five goals during a 5-2 scoring spree that brought his team to within one goal a little over three minutes left to play.
 
Clinging to a one point lead with just under a minute to play, the Privateers would get an insurance goal from sophomore attack Donald Toby (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) who scored the team’s fourth power play goal of the game, with just 00:16 ticks left on the game clock. This was Toby’s second goal of the game, he also led the Privateers on the day with four assists.
 
Freshman goal keeper Joseph Fasano (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) earned his first win of the season even though giving up 11 goals. The rookie, making his third start of the season, also finished the game with 14 saves and two ground balls. In net for the Cyclones, senior Ryan Seickel (Bound Brook, NJ/Bridgewater) had 18 saves after facing 44 shots and allowed 13 goals.
 
Today’s victory improves the Privateers to 2-3 on the season and now 1-0 in the Knickerbocker. Centenary falls to 3-3 and 0-2 in the “Knick”. Next up on the docket for the Privateers will be the Red Hawks of Montclair State University whom they will take the field against on Wednesday, March 29th with a start time of 7:00pm. Currently, Montclair State sits at 4-3 both overall and in the Knickerbocker, having played only conference games thus far this season. Wednesday’s game will actually mark the final conference that the Red Hawks will play this season, which makes it an even more important game for both teams as they look to position themselves towards a post season birth.
