Throggs Neck, NY – The Maritime College women’s swimming team prevailed in their last home meet of the season, defeating fellow Skyline Conference team Mount Saint Vincent 69-48 in the two teams first ever meeting outside of the Skyline Invitational.
Freshman
Alice Mayer (Wolcott, N.Y./North Rose-Wolcott) (Wolcott, NY/North-Rose Wolcott), who joined the team in January, had an incredible day with first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard IM and the 200-yard IM. Senior and team captain
Katie Marley (Peru, NY/Peru Central) (Peru, NY/Peru Central), had a solid meet taking first place in the 100-yard butterfly [1:19.40] and the 200-yard freestyle [2:31.05].
Sophomore
Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) grabbed herself a pair of first place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle [7:15.04] and the 50-yard butterfly [36.14]. In total, the Privateers took first place in 10 of the 14 events that were swam. An overall good day for the Privateer women’s swimming team which has experienced it’s most successful season since the program was started three years ago.
The team will now prepare for a tough match-up when they head in to Manhattan to take on Hunter College on Tuesday. They go up against a Hunter team that is coming off of a championship performance, winning their fifth straight CUNY Athletic Conference Championship. Following the Hunter meet, the Privateers will close out the regular season at the Vassar Sprints on February 11th and close out the season at the Metropolitan Championships on February 17th.
