Box Score

Throggs Neck, NY – Freshman forward Marques Williams (Bahamas/Central Eleuthera) (Bahamas/Central Eleuthera) put forth his best game yet, scoring eight points all on put backs and pulling down 10 rebounds, but a second half run wouldn’t be able to carry them to the win as the Privateers of Maritime College came up short to the Hawks of Hunter College in a non-conference men’s basketball game Thursday evening in Throggs Neck, NY.

Junior forward Michael Stolberg (Bayside, N.Y./Holy Cross) (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) continued his strong play from last week, scoring a team high 16 points and had 11 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double effort. Despite a poor shooting effort, sophomore forward Timothy Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) still managed to score 12 points as the team’s second highest scorer on the day. Dougherty completed his own double-double with 13 rebounds.

Starting guard, Gerard Ciarlegio (Bradenton, FL/Cardinal Mooney) had a huge game for the Hawks, shooting 4-of-6 from downtown and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe for a total of 24 points. Junior guard Chris Garrick (Brooklyn, NY/Sheepshead Bay) and sophomore forward Lance Evans (Brooklyn, NY/East Hampton) each added 16 points for the Hawks.

Hunter  (7-2) has now won seven straight games, while the Privateers (1-8) drop their sixth straight game.

The Privateers return to action this Saturday, when they host the Bridges of Brooklyn College in their final game of the 2006. Saturday’s game is set for a 2:00pm tip-off. Maritime will then return home in the new year, when they host Marymount College on Wednesday, January 3 for a 4:00pm game, changed from it’s original 7:00pm start time.
