Box Score
Throggs Neck, NY – Junior guard Lamar Fields (Bronx, NY/Rice) tallied his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but his efforts would not be enough as the Privateers fall to the Valiants of Manhattanville College, 73-56 in a men’s basketball Skyline Conference game on Saturday afternoon in Throggs Neck, NY.

The Valiants were led by junior guard Cody Moffet (Brooklyn, NY/Edgemont) who led all scorers with 17 points, shooting 67 percent from the field. Senior guard John DiBetta (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) and sophomore forward Justin Morris (West Haven, CT/Notre Dame) each added 14 points as the Valiant starting line-up accounted for 61 of the team’s 73 points. Freshman guard DeVon Barnett (Alexandra, VA/Gonzaga) netted 10 points, the only non-starter to finish in double figures.

The Valiants jumped out to an early lead, going up 14-2, in four and a half minutes of play. However, the Privateers battled back to bring the deficit to within one point, 20-19 with 5:35 left in the first. The Valiants would then close out the first half with two quick baskets off of two turnovers to own a seven point advantage heading into the intermission. Manhattanville continued their run in the opening minutes of the second half, extending their lead to 14 points on a 9-4 run and prevented the Privateers from getting anything going on offense. Despite the Privateers first half run, the Valiants controlled the game from start to finish, never once relinquishing their lead.

Sophomore guard Joseph Bracaglia (Jamaica, N.Y./Martin Van Buren) (Jamaica, NY/Martin Van Buren) put forth a solid effort with ten points, shooting 6-of-8 from the free-throw line for the Privateers. Junior guard Justen Price (Yonkers, NY/Lincoln) also finished with 10 points and had seven boards in just 18 minutes of action.

After today’s game, the Privateers fall to 1-4 on the season and are now 0-1 in the Skyline Conference while the Valiants improve to 5-1 and remain unbeaten in the Skyline at 2-0.

Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, December 6 when they host the Ducks of the Stevens Institute of Technology for a 7:00pm Skyline Conference match-up.
