Jonathan Peoples (Kannapolis, NC/A.L. Brown) (Kannapolis, NC/A.L. Brown) had a break out game, rushing for 154 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Privateers of Maritime College over Walter Reed, 66-6 Saturday evening in a football game at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY.
As Peoples became the focal point of the Privateer option, it opened the door for two other freshmen backs to pick up some yardage.
Benjamin Swedish (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, while
Chris Delano (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) also found the end-zone after rushing for 32 yards.
Once again coming up big, the #15 ranked defensive in the nation combined for 18 of the Privateers 66 points, after forcing three fumbles and three interceptions. Leading the defensive assault was freshman
Marcello Murillo (Harrison, NJ/Queen of Peace) (Harrison, NJ/Queen of Peace) who finished with a team high six total tackles and returned a fumble for 55-yard touchdown. Freshman
Francis Giampiccolo (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) (Tarrtytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) scored the game’s first defensive touchdown on a 38-yard fumble recovery, with 6:34 left in the first quarter. Freshman

Giampiccolo’s touchdown with one of his own on a 38-yard interception return with ten seconds left in the first quarter, this game the Privateers an early 16 nothing advantage following two successful two point conversions.
The Privateers only non-rushing or defensive touchdown was scored at the end of the second half when sophomore
Greg Campisi (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) connected with freshman
Kshuwan Thompson (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) in the end-zone for a 35-yard touchdown pass.
Despite the Privateers stellar defensive play, Walter Reed still managed to accumulate 173 yards of total offense, led by quarterback Christopher Williams (St. Louis, MO) who threw for 146 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Walter Reed got contributions from defensive back Grady Tucker (Los Angeles, CA) who had a game high seven total tackles, and linebacker Patrick Serfling (Beula, CO) who finished with 6.5 total tackles.
Today’s game gives the Privateers their first win of the season, improving their record to 1-4 overall.
Maritime returns to action next Saturday, October 14 when they host the Eagles of Husson College with a Noon kick-off time.
