Box Score Valhalla, NY – Freshman forward Mehmet Alkan (Turkey/Ozel Cent) scored two goals in the final five minutes of the game to lead the Privateers to their third straight win, defeating the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a Skyline Conference men’s soccer match Wednesday afternoon at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY.
Despite the final score, the Dolphins actually had more offensive opportunities than the Privateers, taking seven more shots and six more corner kicks than the Privateers. However, it would be the outstanding play of junior keeper
Matt Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (Penfield, NY/Penfield) that would prevent the Dolphins from getting on the board, stopping 13 shots to earn the sixth shutout of his career.
Today’s victory improves the Privateers to 3-3-1 on the year and moves them into third place in the Skyline with a 2-1-1 conference record. The Dolphins fall to 3-6 overall [0-3 Skyline], stopping their own win streak at two games.
Maritime returns to action this Saturday when they host the Bearcats of Baruch College in a 2:00pm match.
