Throggs Neck, NY – After an early first half lead sparked by their only try of the game by Justin Turner, the Privateers settle for a 7-7 tie against Manhattan College to remain unbeaten on the year in Rugby action this past Sunday in Throggs Neck, NY.

Following Turner’s try and a conversion kick by junior winger Chris Tamulonis, the Privateers held onto a 7-0 lead for the remainder of the first half. Manhattan scored their try in the early minutes of the second half to push the score to 7-7.

Maritime would control the ball for most of the second half, but the Manhattan defense and unusual rucking strategy tired out the Privateers and prevented them from scoring the go ahead try. The man of the match went to junior prop John Donohue (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) for his extraordinary effort and for making some great plays during the game.

The Maritime Rugby club returns to action on Sunday, October 22 when they battle Bard College for the right to be named the 2006 Metro New York Rugby Conference Division III Champions. Sunday’s contest will be held at Maritime College at 3:30pm.
