Swedish had career best in loss to Husson, 27-19

Throggs Neck, NY – Freshman running back Benjamin Swedish (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) had the best game of his rookie year, rushing for a game high 150 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, but turnovers would plaque the Privateers who fall 27-19 to the Eagles of Husson College in a football contest Saturday afternoon at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY.
 
Helping out Swedish on offense was freshman running back Jonathan Peoples (Kannapolis, NC/A.L. Brown) (Kannapolis, NC/A.L. Brown) who rushed for 60 yards on five carries and sophomore quarterback Greg Campisi (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) who rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown.
 
Maritime’s defense once again came up big, holding the Eagles to 225 yards of offense, allowing just 61 yards in the air. Leading the defensive charge was the Fort Hamilton duo of defensive backs Troy Smith (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton) (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton) who finished with 6.5 total tackles and Thant Zin Phyo (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton)  (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton) had had 6 total tackles. Senior defensive lineman Arlis Steel (Lawton, Okla./Lawton) (Lawton, OK/Lawton) helped round things out with 5.5 total tackles and picked off his first career interception.
 
The Eagles (4-3) were led on offense by freshman running back Bryan Ferguson (New Britain, CT/New Britain) who rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries. Senior quarterback David Chase (Sabattus, NY/Oak Hill) connected eight times on 18 attempts for 61 yards and a touchdown.
 
Defensively, Husson was led by junior defensive lineman Joe Melcher (Portland, OR/Deering) who finished with 6 solo tackles, while junior linebacker Ross Salovitch (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) tallied 5.5 total tackles and sophomore defensive back Ramael Barton (Danbury, CT/Danbury) had five solo tackles.
 
Ferguson helped give the Eagles an early 7-0 on a rush form three yards out following an interception thrown by Campisi that gave Husson the ball on the Maritime 22-yard line.
 
However, Campisi would make up for the mistake with a touchdown run from a yard out to give the Privateers a 13-7 lead. Maritime had the ball at the Husson 18 after a 68-yard fumble recovery by freshman defensive back Jack Edmund (Alturas, FL/Bartow) (Alturas, FL/Bartow).
 
Following yet another Privateer turnover, the Eagles would go onto score their second touchdown of the game on a pass from Chase to junior wide out Jeremy Shorey (Libson, ME/Libson), giving them the a 14-13 lead heading into the half.
 
Husson owned the third quarter, scoring 13 points including a 46-yard fumble recovery by freshman defensive back Luis Tejeda (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill) and a four yard run from Ferguson to give them a 27-13 advantage.
 
The Privateers lone touchdown of the second half came with 2:10 left in the game on a blocked punt by Edmund that was picked up by freshman Ethan Balcer (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic) (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic) who then ran 19-yards for the score.
 
Maritime (1-5), returns to action on Saturday, October 21 when they travel to Newport News, VA to take on the Builders of the Apprentice School in what is being dubbed the Mariners Bowl with a kickoff time of 1:00 pm.
