Throggs Neck, NY – In women’s soccer action, sophomore midfielder
Kelly Carroll (Bethany Beach, Del./Indian River) (Bethany, DE/Indian River) netted a beautiful shot in the first half, however it was the Rams of Farmingdale State were pulled out the victory Thursday afternoon in Throggs Neck.
Farmingdale scored their first goal at 7:56 total time on a breakaway by freshman
Jessica Graziano (Levittown, NY/Division Ave.). The Privateers than rallied back with a nice header by Carroll off of a direct kick from junior
Danielle Centeno (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd) to tie the game at one a piece. They would follow this up with a couple of quick goals, limiting the Privateers offensive chances. After one half of play, the score stood at 6-1 in favor of Farmingdale.
Things were much different in the second half, as the Privateers limited the Rams to only one goal after great defensive play and some nice saves by senior goalkeeper
Kim DiGiulio (Massapequa, NY/Amittyville Memorial) (Massapequa, NY/Amityville). DiGiulio finished the day with 16 saves, while senior goalkeeper
Pam Baione (Farmingdale, NY/Plainedge) had one save and allowed one goal for the Rams.
Freshman Jean Essig (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and sophomore April Mino (Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) led the way for Farmingdale with two goals a piece. The Privateers had a couple of chances at the net in the second half, but just couldn’t get one past the Farmingdale goalkeeper.
The Privateers played hard the entire game, even down to the last seconds. Soon enough their hard work and determination will begin to payoff as the young team continues to get accustomed to the collegiate level.
The Maritime Women’s Soccer team will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Newburgh, NY to go up against the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary.
