Box Score
Throggs Neck, NY – The Privateer women’s volleyball team played their best games of the year as they battled it out against the Cougars of Medgar Evers College to three hard fought games Thursday evening in a non conference match up.

Rally scoring was in full effect in the first game as each team shared scoring runs back and forth right up until the end which resulted in a 30-26 win for Medgar. Maritime struggled a little the second game, but had a huge third game and came within one serve of forcing a fourth game. The Cougars seemed to have pulled away in game three after a close start, but the Privateers scored five straight points and continued to make a push when the game was on the line. The final score would end up 31-29, as the Privateers came only a couple points shy of taking their first individual game of the year.

Sophomore setter Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) had an all around solid performance, finishing the game with five serving aces and four assists. Freshmen hitters Erika Tamulonis (Bellerose, NY/Great Neck South) (Bellrose, NY/Great Neck South) and Lindsay Wheeler (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois) (Buffalo, NY/Iroquois) had possibly the best games of their short collegiate careers. Defensively, sophomore Jamie Gleber (Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) (Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) added much needed help in the back serving as the libero for today’s contest.

This was by far the Privateers best performance of the year, and should help carry them into their game tomorrow night against Polytechnic. Last season, the Privateers defeated Polytechnic 3-1 in the season finale. They will look for a repeat performance of last season when they host the Fighting Blue Jays in a 6:30pm match.

Following tomorrow night’s game, the Privateer volleyball team will then head to Hunter College on Saturday October 1 for their annual tournament. Games are scheduled to begin at 10:00am as the Privateers will go up against some of the best competition in the metropolitan area.
