Throggs Neck, NY – On a busy night at Maritime College, the men’s and women’s swim teams held a home meet against the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary and when it was all said and done, the Privateer men’s team came out victorious just demolishing the Knights 126-41. The women’s team came up a little short handed, yet they had some good finishes that turned it into a positive night for both teams.

Earlier in the year, the Privateer men’s team took home first place in a tournament at Mount Saint Mary for the second year in a row. Coming into tonight’s meet, they knew they would have an advantage over the MSM squad and showed it as they took first place in eight of the eleven events competed in today. Sophomore Brent May (Sayville, NY/Sayville) picked up two first place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:27.33) three minutes before the Blue Knight swimmer finished, and also took first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:37.18.

Sophomore Drew Gossoo (Marlborough, CT/Xavier) had a good outing picked up first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.35), had a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.61) and was a part of the 200-yard medley relay team that picked up a first place finish.

On the women’s side of things, freshman Brittany McVea (Camillus, NY/West Genesse) (Camillus, NY/West Genese) picked up her first career first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (7:07.24) beating out two Mount swimmers and one of her own teammates. McVea also competed in both relay events, and helped the team pick up a first place finish in the 200-yard medley.

The women’s team will be competing against Hunter College on Thursday the 10th; the Men’s team will have a nice break as they prepare for the MET Championships.
