Box Score
Throggs Neck, NY – On the night that the Privateers honored their two senior members, they were unable to victorious as they dropped  to the Golden Eagles of Saint Joseph’s by a score of 53-45, Saturday afternoon. The game was also the Privateers last contest of the regular season as they will now hit the road on Monday to take on either Stevens Institute of Technology or Yeshiva University, which team will not be decided until after tonight’s game between Mount Saint Vincent and Yeshiva.

It was a low scoring first half that saw Saint Joseph’s hold a 21-20 lead. Following the break, the Golden Eagles came out aggressively on defense forcing the Privateers to commit several straight turnovers that resulted in a 10-0 run for Saint Joe’s. The Golden Eagles built up a lead that the Privateers just were not able to come back from. In the last minute of play, the privateers made a small fun, but free throws became the deciding factor in this one as Saint Joseph’s shot just over 60 percent from the line.

Seniors Gary Browne (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) and Marc Lashley (Queens, N.Y./Holy Cross) (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) totaled for only eight points, but Lashley did have a big game on the boards, grabbing down ten rebounds tied for a team high on the day. The leader for Maritime was once again the man in the middle, junior center Robert Benton (Montgomery, Ala./G.W. Carver) (Montgomery, AL/GW Carver) who finished with 16 points shooting 10-for-13 from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Nikero Barbes (Freeport, Bahamas/Freeport Angelican) (Freeport, Bahamas/Ingelican) had eleven points and seven rebounds as he has really come on big towards the end of the year.

For Saint Joseph’s, freshman forward Alvin Brey (Brentwood, NY/Benjamin E. Hayes) led the way with 14 points while senior forward Mike Massa (St. James/Smithtown) finished with 13 points and five rebounds. With the win, the Golden Eagles are now expecting to take on Mount Saint Vincent on Monday in the first round of the Skyline Tournament, the location of that game will depend on the Dolphins game against Yeshiva tonight which also decided where the Privateers will be traveling to as well.
