Christopher Watson (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley) struck out 11 hitters in 6 and half innings and only let up one run in a 6-1 victory in the home opener for the Privateers over the Blue Jays of Polytechnic in baseball action Tuesday evening.
The Privateers broke out to a 5-0 lead before the Blue Jays picked up a run in the top of the sixth inning. Sophomore center fielder
Daniel Hosemann (West Hempstead, N.Y./Carey) (West Hempstead, NY/Carey) went 3-for-4 with three runs and two singles. The Privateers also took advantage of Polytech’s sloppy play picked up four of their six runs off of errors and a balk. Senior left fielder
Gary Browne (Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) had a good day as well hitting 3-for-4 with a double and two singles and picked up a run in the second inning.
Polytechnic made a small rally in the top of the eighth inning loading up the bases with two outs. However, as the sun set over the Hudson River, so went the chances of a Blue Jays rally as the umpires were forced to call the game shortly after the bases had been filled due to darkness.
The Privateers opened up the season the best way anyone can, with a victory. Now they will open up conference play this weekend, when they host the Rams of Farmingdale State on Saturday in at 3:30pm. The Wednesday March 16th game against Saint Joseph’s has been postponed to a later date.
