Box Score
Farmingdale, NY – Junior guard Jay Gilbert (Montevallo, AL/Montevallo) scored 18 points off the bench and helped the Privateers to a late run, but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome the Rams of Farmingdale State in Skyline Conference men’s basketball action Thursday night at the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center in Farmingdale, NY.

The Privateers came out strong, keeping the game close throughout a good portion of the first half. However, the Rams would go on a 16-2 run to end the first half, giving them a 45-30 lead. Trailing by 15 points, the Privateers surmounted a huge comeback that culminated with the Privateers down 70-68 with 1:21 left in the game. However, clutch free throws from the Rams would close out the game and ensure their victory.

It would end up being a game decided by free throws as both teams made exactly the same amount of field goals, 24, which included nine three-pointers a piece as well. From the free throw line, Farmingdale shot 17-for-25, making four more than Maritime who finished 13-for-19.

Foul trouble woes would once again plague the Privateers, forcing many of the starters to sit out . However, it would once again be the bench stepping up and helping the team get back in this one. The Maritime bench outscored the Rams bench 35-16, behind Gilbert’s 18 and freshman forward Elhanan Israel (North Chicago, IL/North Chicago) scoring nine plus three blocks.

Senior forward Gerard Danzy (Monroeville, Ala./Hillcrest) (Monroeville, AL/Hillcrest) was the only other Privateer to score in double-digits, finishing with 14 points and a team high six rebounds.

Sophomore guard Deshawn Warren (Astoria, NY/WC Bryant) scored 21 points in the first half, was limited to only eight in the second half, yet he was still the top scorer for the Rams with 29 points. The 2004-05 Skyline Player of the Year, senior guard Kenny McMillian (Bronx, NY/All Hallows) finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

Maritime picks up their first conference loss of the season and drop to 2-3 on the year. Now they will receive a small break during final examinations week, but will return to action on Saturday December 17th when they travel north to take on the Division I Army Black Knights. Tip-Off is set for 1pm from Christl Arena in West Point, NY.
