Throggs Neck, NY – The Maritime College men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted the Mariners of the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point on Monday evening. The Privateers fought hard and had some close races against the reigning Skyline Conference Champs, but in the end it would be the Mariners coming out on top by a score of 118-68 and the women’s score was 123-85.
Junior
Joseph Stredny (Harveys Lake, PA/Dallas) (Harveys Lake, PA/Dallas) took first in his best event, the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.75. Freshman
Matthew Drollinger (Glen Cove, NY/Kellenberg) (Glen Cove, NY/Kellenberg) had a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and junior
Drew Gossoo (Marlborough, CT/Xavier) (Marlborough, CT/Xavier) placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.89.
The women were led by senior
Cheryl Driscoll (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos) (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos) who placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke and helped make up some ground in for a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore
Alyson Paz (Point Lookout, NY/Long Beach) (Point Lookout, NY/Long Beach) had a solid performance in the 1 meter diving event, an event she has excelled in all season. Paz finished first in both rounds with final scores of 133.58 and 139.20.
The Privateers will get a day off as they return to action on Wednesday, November 30th when they host the Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
