Privateers slay Knights, move into 2nd in Skyline

Throggs Neck, NY – Freshman midfielder Emilio Andino (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) (Roselle, NJ/Abraham Clark) scored the game winning goal only two minutes into the first half with a shot from about 35 yards out to give the Privateer men’s soccer team a huge conference win over the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday, October 4 at Rienhart Field.
 
The Privateers scored both of their goals in the first four minutes of the game, and played incredible defense for the remaining 86 minutes. Sophomore midfielder Quentin Peabody (Chatham, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) (Chatham, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) scored the Privateers second goal off of a corner kick from freshman midfielder Mayer Nelson (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) who picks up his second assist of the year. This was Peabody’s second goal of the year, while Andino, scored his fourth of the year and his second game-winning goal of 2005.
 
Privateer goalkeeper Matt Kavanaugh (Penfield, NY/Penfield) (Penfield, NY/Penfield) had eight saves in his second shutout in less than a week. The Blue Knight goalkeeper, Jack Benenati finished with six saves.
 
Today’s win improves Maritime to 5-3 on the year and 3-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Privateers return to action on Saturday, October 8 when they host the New York City Institute of Technology in a 1pm non-conference match.
