Throggs Neck, NY – The Maritime Ruby Club remained unbeaten as they tied Montclair State University, 5-5 in a Metropolitan Conference game on Sunday October 16 in Upper Montclair. Despite the whurling winds and muddy field conditions, the Privateers held their own on offensive, and played a huge defensive game, stopping Montclair from scoring a try on several occasions.
Montclair scored a try during the first half, but Maritime bounced back with a try from senior
Gabe Castellanos (Guatamala/Questzaltenango) (Guatamala/Questzaltenango), evening the score at five a piece. Senior
Andy Kurtzman (/) came close to breaking the tie with three try attempts. Also junior center
Dan “Cosby” O’Haire (Rhinebeck, NY) put out a great effort, breaking through Montclair’s defensive line n several occasions.

Jake Letterman had some hard hits trough out the game, but it would be a tackle by senior
Tom Lorenzen (Montose, NY/Hendrich Hudson) (Montose, NY/Hendrich Hudson) that saved the game, stopping Montclair from tying things up. The last five minutes of the game, Maritime had several huge defensive stops as Montclair had the ball in Maritime’s five-meter zone
A special thanks goes out to Coach Robert Wolfe for leading the Privateers to another successful
game. The Maritime Rugby Club will return to action on Sunday, October 23rd at 1pm when they travel up north to take on Stony Brook University.
