Jon Kourie

Jon Kourie joins the Maritime Baseball staff for his fourth season beginning in the fall of 2018.

The 2018 season was once again a successful year for the Privateers, as the team recorded 23 wins on the year, including 11 wins in Skyline Conference play earning the fifth seed in the Skyline Conference Championship. Maritime's pitching staff set several program records on the year, including team earned run average (3.70), lowest opponent batting average (.270), and most saves (7). Following the season, the team had seven individuals earn Skyline All-Conference accolades, including three on the first team.

During the 2017 season Kourie helped the team to one of the most successful seasons in program history as the team qualified for it’s first-ever NCAA Division III Championship appearance as the team won 26 games, including a perfect 3-0 mark at the Skyline Conference Championship to win the title. Offensively the team hit .328, while scoring 316 runs including a program-record 37 home runs and 426 hits. At the conclusion of the season, the team had six All-Conference selections, while Brian McLaughlin '17 was named an ABCA All-American Second Team member after being an all-region selection from the ABCA, D3baseball.com, and the ECAC.

During the 2016 spring season, Maritime had a successful season with Kourie on the staff as the squad finished with a program-best 22 victories with 11 of those wins coming against league opponents as the Privateers finished third in the regular season. On the year, the team scored a program-record 229 runs, and also set program marks in RBIs with 192, triples with 10, and home runs with 22. Following the conclusion of the season, the team had a program-best six Skyline All-Conference selections.
 
Kourie joins the staff following a lengthy career surrounding the sport of baseball. He is currently the owner of Freedom Baseball in Oceanside, N.Y., where he also serves as a trainer and coach for aspiring baseball players. In addition to his own business, Kourie works as a Licensed Mortgage Loan originator and has done so since October of 2013.
 
Since September of 2010, Kourie also serves as a hitting instructor at another academy in Oceanside, where he teaches and trains baseball players, focusing on their hitting. Before then he worked as the head hitting coach at a training facility in Deer Park, N.Y.
 
In addition to his time as an instructor, Kourie played professional baseball for the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League during the 2011 season, and played for the Washington Wildthings in Washington, Pennsylvania during the 2010 baseball season. During his two seasons of professional baseball Kourie hit over .280 with three home runs and 26 RBIs, while also walking 22 times for a .365 on-base percentage.
 
Additionally, Kourie played international baseball for the Long Island Storm, where he was a member of the top amateur baseball team on a global level. He also played summer baseball from the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, where he was team team’s Most Valuable Player and also led the team in batting average as he hit .400 on the season.
 
Kourie played collegiately at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi where he was a member of the Islanders’ baseball team. During his senior season, Kourie hit .277 with three home runs and 25 RBIs to help the team to a 25-win season.
 
Prior to his stop in Texas, Kourie played locally at Briarcliffe College, where he served as Team Captain and led the conference in batting average, triples and home runs. He was also selected as an All-Region player.
 
Kourie graduated from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a degree in Kinesteology in 2007, after receiving his Associate’s Degree from Briarcliffe in 2004. The Long Island native still resides in Oceanside.
