Colin Culhane

Colin Culhane begins his third season at the helm of the Maritime Men’s and Women’s Cross Country programs in the fall of 2016.

During his second season with the program, he guided the men's program to the Skyline Conference Cross Country Championship for the first time in a decade. Overall, the men's team had six top-three finishes including a pair of victories. The women's team also made strides and posted three top-10 finishes. At the Skyline Championships, the Privateers had four All-Conference selections.

In his first season as head coach, Culhane oversaw Maritime's second Most Outstanding Runner in three seasons as freshman Nicholas Sherman won the individual championship at the Skyline Conference Championship meet. In addition to individual performances, the men's team was the top Skyline Conference team to score at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals in Rochester, N.Y.

No stranger to Skyline Conference Cross Country, Culhane most recently served as the assistant cross country and track & field coach at St. Joseph’s in Patchogue, New York. In his one season with the Golden Eagles, he helped guide both the men’s and women’s teams to conference championships in 2013.

Amongst his top finishers were men’s individual champion Brian Wersen, who alongside Maritime runner Cameron Coneys, were the only two to finish with times below 28 minutes at the 2013 Championship Meet. On the women’s side in 2013, Culhane helped coach five of the top eight runners at the meet, with seven runners finishing in the top 13.

Prior to his stint on Long Island, Culhane spent the Fall of 2012 at his alma Mater, Iona College. While there he served as a volunteer player-manager with the Gaels volleyball program that saw the team finish with an 8-2 record at home record, including wins in its last three matches.

As a student-athlete, Culhane spent four seasons as a runner on the Iona Cross Country team. In addition, he was named one of two team captains for the men’s team in the Fall of 2011, he was the second ever walk-on runner to become a captain. He led to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

During his senior season, Culhane had his best career individual finish as a collegiate runner with a 5th place performance at the Brooks Paul Short Run in Lehigh, Pennsylvania. Overall the team won the event that featured 46 teams.

While not competing for the cross country team in the fall, he competed for Iona’s indoor and outdoor track & field programs. One of his career highlights was a 30:37 time in the 10,000-meter event at the historic Penn Relays Event held in Philadelphia in the late spring.

The Sayville, New York native received his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in January of 2013 from Iona.
