Freshman Sven Axelsson was one of the four members of Maritime's novice four that qualified for the finals at the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta this past weekend in Philadelphia.

Axelsson was a part of the quartet that came in first place in its initial heat with a time of 7:23.450 on Friday afternoon. In its semifinal run, Maritime finished with a weekend-best time of 6:56.785 to qualifiy for the finals later in the day on Saturday.
 
The finals saw Maritime pitted up against some of the top teams in the country, the Privateers came across the line in sixth position with a time of 7:01.756.

Axelsson was also named the men's rowing coach's award recipient at the annual Athletics Honors Banquet in late April for his strong overall season with the team.
