Privateers Fall To John Jay In Big Apple Trophy Match Saturday

        NEW YORK (Dec. 7, 2013) – On Saturday, the Maritime rifle team travelled to John Jay College in Manhattan to take part in the Big Apple Trophy match against the Bloodhounds in an air rifle only event. The Privateers lost single discipline shoulder-to-shoulder showdown by the score of 2171-2148. Despite the loss, senior Allison Lashmet (DeFreestville, N.Y./Columbia) (DeFreestville, N.Y./Columbia) recorded a personal best score of 567 (out of 600).
 
        Out of six target cards with a highest possible score of 100 per card, all of Lashmet's cards were over 90 points. She had a match-best card of 97 points on her fourth card and was the only competitor to score all 90's on all of their cards. The Privateers other scorers that counted on the day were freshman Brad Boomhower (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) and senior Joe Holomoshek (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai), who both shot a score of 532 and junior Barry Potts (South Brunswick Township, N.J./South Brunswick) (South Brunswick Township, N.J./South Brunswick), who shot a 517.
 
        Also shooting on the day for Maritime was junior Joe Andricola (Blackwood, N.J./Gloucester Catholic), who rebounded after a first card of 83 to finish out with five straight cards in the 90's for an overall score of 537, as well as senior Rob Depietri (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional), who shot a 515.
 
The Bloodhounds had three shootes score 540 points or more, led by Elisa Dunn, who shot a 557. Both R.J. Kopec and Connie Villon each shot 540 on the day and David Vegvari rounded out John Jay's scoring with a 538.
 
Maritime will return to action on Saturday, January 18, 2014, when the squad will travel to Penn State University in Happy Valley to take on the Nittany Lions mixed and ROTC teams.
