2009-2010 S.A.A.C. OFFICERS
MISSION STATEMENT
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee – S.A.A.C. – is made up of representatives from each of the varsity and athletic club teams at SUNY Maritime College. Furthermore in conjunction with the Maritime tradition, S.A.A.C. seeks to enhance the total student-athlete experience regardless of regimental or non-regimental affiliation by promoting opportunity, professionalism, and equality amongst student-athletes and the College while fostering a positive student-athlete image necessary to achieve championship level athletics. Their goal is to provide student-athletes a unified voice in communications among other student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators when addressing issues designed to improve the student-athlete experience. SAAC also seeks to promote growth and education through sports participation, provide feedback and insight into athletic department issues, build a sense of community within the athletic program, organize community service efforts, serve as a vehicle for student-athlete representation on other campus-wide committees and promote a positive student-athlete image on campus.
COMPOSITION OF COMMITTEE
The SAAC shall consist of a maximum of 2 team representatives from each varsity athletic team, with all teams being represented. There will also be four officers who will be voted in to serve as such over the fall and spring semesters. The titles available are President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The jobs and responsibilities of the officials will be adjusted to coincide with the needs of SUNY Maritime athletics and its’ issues.
COMMITTEE REPRESENTATIVES
It is recommended that junior and senior student-athletes from varsity teams act as SAAC representatives. When necessary, underclass can/will be approved for membership. A student-athlete member shall not serve more than three years on the committee. Student-athletes may serve on the committee up to one year after completion of their intercollegiate athletics eligibility.
COMMITTEE OPERATIONS
SUNY Maritime’s S.A.A.C. will meet every other week as deemed by members and/or administrative supervisor. An agenda will be required for each meeting developed through a collaboration of the SAAC members, the administrative supervisor and/or the Director of Athletics. Meetings will be designed to address departmental/campus wide issues such as departmental services, dining, academics, and community service.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance is required for all SAAC meetings. The inability to attend must be accompanied by appropriate notification to the committee sponsor and/or SAAC liaisons prior to the meeting. Failure to attend regular meetings may subject the representatives term of office immediately. Furthermore, a bi-weekly attendance report will be generated and sent out to the athletic coaching staff per their request.
2009-2010 S.A.A.C. OFFICERS
President: Andrew Geisel (Men's Basketball)
- Presides over meetings.
- Sets the agenda for meetings.
- Serves as liaison to the Athletic Department.
- Functions as spokesperson from Maritime College to the community.
- Ensures all purposes of SAAC are carried out to the best of his/her ability.
Vice-President: Christina George (Women's Soccer)
- Presides over meetings and functions when President is absent.
- Performs such duties as are incidental to the office and which are required of the office by the Committee.
- In charge of organizing any purchases or donations on behalf of the committee.
- Research and implement community service activities throughout the academic year.
Secretary: Alyssa Vecchione (Women's Swimming)
- Shall take attendance by a sign in sheet, which will be turned in or e-mailed to the staff advisor within 24 hours.
- Is responsible for taking active minutes of the meeting, and getting them to the S.A.A.C President and staff advisor within 24 hours.
- Makes sure that the Privateer Bulletin Board is kept up-to-date.
Treasurer/ Scholarships: Ethan Balcer (Football)
- Keep record in logbook of every transaction made by the Vice-President.
- Make monthly financial report which is presented to the executive board.
- Handles all monetary transactions.
- Research and distribute information on college, conference, and national scholarships.
