THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 6, 2013) – On a free weekend in between the Skyline Conference Championship Meet and the NCAA Regional Meet, the Maritime men's and women's cross country teams spent this past Sunday, Nov. 3, volunteering at the 43rd running of the ING New York City Marathon.

"This was a great way for the team members to give back to their running community," said first-year head coach Megan Patterson. "They genuinely enjoyed supporting all levels of runners while having the opportunities to be steps away from some of the greatest distance runners in the world. It was an all-around awesome day!"

The Privateers were stationed at Mile 24 of the 26.2-mile course and were responsible in assisting the distribution of water and Gatorade to the competitors throughout the entire day, from the first wave of elite runners to the last waves.

They were also responsible for assisting spectators, securing the course and cleaning up the area post race. The team members even got to see numerous celebrities that ran in the race, including Pamela Anderson and Michael J. Fox.
