THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (October 15, 2013) – This past Saturday the Maritime women's soccer team volunteered at the Brooklyn Rock 'n' Roll 10K in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.

As part of their responsibilities, the team was tasked with providing water to runners as they crossed the first checkpoint of the 10K. In addition to filling and passing out water cups, many of the members of the team cheered on the passing runners as they pressed forward through the 6.2-mile trek.

As volunteers at the race, the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series, which is produced by Competitor Group, Inc., based out of San Diego, California has donated a predetermined amount of money per volunteer towards the charity at the choice of the team.

"The opportunity was very rewarding and enriching for the team on Saturday," said Maritime assistant coach Brittany Ross. "Overall, I feel the team had a really great time at the 10K"

The charity chosen by the women's soccer team has been one that the Privateers have teamed with in the past, the American Society for the Prevention and Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). For the second year in a row, the Privateers will be donating to the non-profit organization that is dedicated to preventing cruelty for animals. After volunteering away from the soccer pitch on Saturday, Maritime (9-6, 2-4 Skyline) will reconvene in non-conference action Wednesday evening as the squad takes on Yeshiva at 8:30 p.m. in Teaneck, N.J. on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University.
