THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (August 26, 2010) – The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced on Wednesday that the Maritime football team was selected to finish in third place among its conference opponents this season, as voted on by the head coaches of the eight member schools on Tuesday. This was the first official coaches poll performed by the second-year conference, as it is the first season the league will be competing with its full eight members.
The Privateers, who received 45 votes in the poll, finished the 2009 season with a 3-3 mark in conference action, which tied for third place in the league. The squad just missed out on a second-place finish and a berth in the Conference Championship game after a season-ending loss to Gallaudet.
Defending ECFC Regular Season Champs and Conference Championship Game winners, Norwich, were selected to finish on top of the conference once again with 53 votes, including seven first place votes. The Cadets were followed by 2009 second-place finisher, Mount Ida, who received 52 votes and one first place tally.
