Adamo And Roman Named 2010 Football Captains

8/13/2010 9:30:00 AM

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (August 13, 2010) – On Thursday night, at the first team meeting of the new season, Maritime football head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes and the coaching staff announced the team captains for the upcoming 2010 campaign. Seniors Frank Adamo (Somers, N.Y./Somers)-OL (Katonah, N.Y.) and Steve Roman (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's by the Sea)-DB (Staten Island, N.Y.) were chosen by their teammates to lead this year's crop of players that will look to improve upon the successful season in 2009, in which the Privateers finished with a 6-4 overall record.

“I am very proud of these two men and for our team who elected them as their captains,” said Kendrick-Holmes. “They will do an outstanding job of leading this squad both on and off the field.”

Adamo led the team in most defenders knocked down during the 2009 season and was also the winner of the team's Accountability Award as voted on by his teammates. He was a key factor in Maritime's offense leading the ECFC in seven of 11 offensive statistical categories and leading the nation in sacks allowed (1) and 3rd down conversion (53%). Adamo also contributed to the fourth-ranked rushing offense (316 ypg) in the NCAA last season. Frank is majoring in Marine Transportation and is working towards a USCG Deck License.

Roman was recognized by the conference as an All-ECFC Defensive Honorable Mention last season and was voted on by his teammates as the Comeback Player of the Year. He re-established himself as a force in the defensive backfield by tallying 32 tackles, including four tackles for loss. Roman also registered five passes defended and four pass breakups in 2009. Steve is majoring in Facilities Engineering and is a member of the Regiment of Cadets.

The Privateers will open the season on Thursday, Sept. 2, when the squad plays host to Massachusetts Maritime in the Fourth Annual Chowder Bowl. Kick-off against the Buccaneers is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
