Sailing Finishes Year With 17th-Place Finish At Nationals

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (June 7, 2010) – The Maritime sailing team, led by first-year head coach Russ O'Reilly, wrapped up its Spring 2010 season with a 17th-place finish at the ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy Champs held on Lake Mendota in Madison, Wisc. June 1-3.

 

The Privateers finished with a total of 233 points over the three-day event and were ahead of only Stanford University (237 points). Points are earned with each finish of every individual race, with the lowest scores counting best towards the ultimate result. The Boston College Eagles won the 2010 Championship with a total of 127 points.

 

The Maritime A-Division, comprised of senior William Gallagher (Little Compton, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) (Little Compton, R.I.) and freshman Shawn Murray (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spaulding) (Annapolis, Md.), earned 118 points over ten 10 races. Their best finish was sixth place in the seventh race.

 

The B-Division squad of juniors Ted Green (Wickford, R.I./Bishop Hendricksen) (Wickford, R.I.) and Nikki Kelly (Williamsville, N.Y.) and freshman Harry Scott (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) (Annapolis, Md.) tallied 115 points in their 10 races, with their best finish coming in the ninth race, where they came in fifth place.
