THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 22, 2010) – The Maritime men's swimming team competed in the Metropolitan Conference Collegiate Swimming Championships this past weekend at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. The Privateers finished in 14th place out of 18 schools with 177 points.
Sophomore Jonathan DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) picked up the only first-place finish for Maritime on the day, touching first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.12, earning nine points for the Privateers. Maritime would earn two second-place finishes at the event: freshman Joseph Tucker (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun ) was runner up in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.79 and the 200 yard freestyle relay team of DaSilva, junior Brian Day (Paramus, N.J./Paramus), junior Joseph Bosch (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and Tucker came in second in 1:35.76, which earned 14 points for Maritime. Freshman Joseph Cooney (Cranford, N.J./Union Catholic) finished third in the 50 yard backstroke, touching in 27.53 seconds.
