The Maritime women's volleyball team, under the direction of first-year head coach Emmanuel Palatulan, finished the 2009 campaign with a 4-17 record. The Privateers opened the season with a win over City Tech before building its record to 3-2. The squad would win its final contest of the season in dramatic fashion, coming from behind to defeat Yeshiva, 3-2, and end the season on a positive note.
The Privateers were led by freshman Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt), who registered a team-high 126 kills (1.80 per set) and ranked second on the team with 117 digs (1.58 per set). Sophomore Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek), who missed half of the season with an injury, was the team's assist leader with 157 (4.03 per set), while junior libero Natalie Warren (Peachtree City, Ga./Homeschooled) picked up a team-high 135 digs (2.01 per set). Maritime's only graduating-senior, Marissa Danzy, put up a Privateer-high 66 total blocks (0.90 per set), a mark that ranked third in the Skyline Conference.
Throughout the year, Maritime had a player land on the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll six different times as Jackson earned the accolade three times. Johnson was named to the honor roll twice and sophomore Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) appeared on it once.
