THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2009) The Skyline Conference announced on Wednesday that Maritime College has won the 2009 Sportsmanship Award for both the men's and women's cross country teams. The award, as voted on by the Skyline schools, is awarded to the team that has displayed outstanding team sportsmanship throughout the fall cross country season.

“We are thrilled to be given this honor,” stated men's coach Jim Driscoll.  “It means a lot that the award is based on the votes of the other runners and coaches in the conference. Maritime College did an outstanding job hosting the conference meet this year. Not only did our athletes run exceptionally well, but our students volunteered to help manage the meet. I saw one of our guys helping a runner who had collapsed in the chute. It's nice to have the other teams validate something I already knew…that Maritime students are the best!”

The men's team will conclude the 2009 season when they compete in the NCAA Regional Championship this Saturday at Letchworth State Park in Castile, N.Y.
