THROGS NECK, NY - SUNY Maritime's head rifle coach Dorion Germany, was selected as the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) Coach of the Year following a regular season in which the Privateers earned a berth to the Conference Finals.  The team ended the season with a second place finish in the Finals.

"Winning Coach of the Year is a very humbling experience for me because this is something I never thought about," said Germany. "Winning matches and making the team better is all I would think about over the season.”

It's Germany's second season as an NCAA Head Coach, and prior to that he was an assistant at West Point under Head Coach Ron Wigger (a two-time Coach of the Year and NCAA Champion). Germany cites his time at West Point, his student-athlete days, and the Sports Management Program at Cazenovia College as key influences in his coaching career.

“I am very impressed with what Dorion has achieved in such a short period of time.  My first impression was he was very highly motivated and I knew SUNY Maritime had made the right hire,” said NCAA Championship Coach Ron Wigger.

The MAC is the largest rifle conference in the nation, made up of 15 active member institutions.  Capt. Germany is the third coach this year at Maritime College to be named Coach of the Year by their respective conference.  Peter Vecchio for Men's Swimming and Capt. Driscoll for Men's Cross Country were the other two.
