THROGGS NECK, NY - A shooting range, recently built for the SUNY Maritime Rifle Team, opened earlier this month. The shooting facility replaces an on-campus range that was decommissioned several years ago.
The facility features a classroom, a firearms training simulator, five 10-meter rifle stations, and a range control office. In addition to the athletic department's support, Cadet Jason Fetter (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro)'s father and uncle- both licensed contractors- donated their time and expertise to the construction project.
The range will be available to both the Rifle Team members and opposing team shooter visiting SUNY Maritime for matches.
CAPT Dorion Germany, Head Coach of the Rifle Team said: "I am pleased that the team now has its own range. Both the range and the joint effort to build it demonstrate the continued enthusiasm and support that our team receives from the school and community. And, of course, with this new range, the Cadets can train better and achieve a higher level of proficiency than they have previously been able to.”
