Men's Crew finishes 4th at Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints

Throggs Neck, NY – The Maritime College men’s crew team placed second in three events earning them a fourth overall finish while the women’s team placed second in two events giving them an eighth overall finish during a successful outing at the Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints at Gifford Pinchot State Park in Lewisberry ,PA.  
 
The Privateer varsity eight finished second in the race with a time of 6:09.8. Members of the Maritime varsity eight on Saturday were freshman Ben Welch (Melbourne, FL/Culver Military) (Melbourne, FL), sophomores Zachary Comer (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (East Rockaway, NY), David McCleary (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) (Bay Shore, NY), and James Neumann (Islip, NY/Islip) (Islip, NY/Islip), juniors Connor Leahy (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills) (Burnt Hills, NY), Doug Sier (Matthews, VA/) (Matthews, VA), Chris Dotterer (Catasaugua, Pa./Catasaugua) (Catasaugua, PA), and Kevin Heath (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) (Ossining, NY) and the coxswain was sophomore Kelly Fitzpatrick (Annapolis, MD/Mount de Sales) (Annapolis, MD).
 
In the men’s varsity four race, the Privateers had two boats entered with the “A” squad finishing second in a time of 6:38.73, and the “B” squad taking sixth place in a time of 7:01.49.
 
The women’s pair of seniors Cheryl Driscoll (Los Alamos, NM/Los Alamos) (Los Alamos, NM) and Ashleigh Teitel (Cold Spring Harbor, NY/Cold Spring Harbor) (Cold Spring Harbor, NY) took second place in their event in 8:18.95, just a second behind first place Hopkins. The women’s team also placed second in the novice four event with a time of 8:19.95. On Saturday, the novice four boat consisted of sophomores Laura Ash (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern) (Sloatsburg, NY), Kaitlin Troutner (Lancaster, PA/Solanco) (Lancaster, PA), junior Ellen Cava (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro) (Princeton, NJ) and freshman Danielle Grisson (Worcester, MA/Holy Names) (Worcester, MA).
 
Heading into the final stretch of their spring season, the Privateers will travel north to Worcester, MA on Saturday May 6th where they will compete in the New England 4’s Championship. In addition to the event in Massachusetts, the team will be sending a second group to Occoquan, VA on Sunday, May 7th, to compete at the Mid-Atlantic Championships. It will be a busy weekend, but the Privateers will look to turn it into a successful venture just as they did this past weekend.
