Maritime College Athletic Department Expectations for Championship Athletics Vision:
The vision for the Department of Athletics is to provide our student-athletes with a first class athletic experience, inclusive of a wide variety of competitive opportunities for both men and women, and is value based on sportsmanship, character, personal integrity and leadership. Our vision is also founded on the importance of a well-rounded academic experience whereby our student-athletes receive academic support designed to promote timely graduations and overall personal achievement. Participants will learn the importance of community service through direct involvement, developing strong leaders and positive role models for life. Further, our vision is to become championship caliber with our facilities, coaching staff and programs. Ultimately, we envision our department operations to be a leader among Division III programs offering broad-based, equitable, Title IX compliant and student-centered programming.
Mission:
The athletic programs at Maritime College are designed to augment the college learning experience for all men and women student-athletes while providing additional opportunities for developing teamwork, leadership and a deeper commitment to personal development. Our student-athletes, as students first and foremost pursuing academic success, will also abide by the College Code of Conduct regarding all general student life issues. Maritime College student-athletes should expect to have advanced experiences in life-long learning and lifetime fitness. Ultimately, our mission is to develop champions in the classroom, champions on the field of play, champions in the business world and, more importantly, champions of life! Philosophy:
The pursuit of both academic and athletic success will always be the foundation for all of our athletic programs. As an NCAA Division III institution and specialized college within the State University of New York, Maritime College supports the governing philosophy emphasizing non-scholarship participation with specific attention placed on the student-athlete experience rather than any other group or interest. Prepare to be a Champion:
Dream . . . Plan . . . Execute . . . Achieve! ® Dream….BIG! The many GREAT people that we all remember were initially average people who simply had a dream!
Plan…..individual and team short/long term goals for your own personal and team success.
Execute….. the plan with a commitment to excellence.
“Every DAY is an opportunity to WIN!” - Martinov
Achieve….in many more ways than you ever expected!
During the process of preparing to be a champion, we must develop the necessary skills to become the best at what we hope to accomplish. The term “prepare” signifies the importance of how we all are constantly preparing for something in life . . . preparation is ongoing. Whether we take action or not, we are making a statement of how our future will unfold.
“Prepare to be the best in everything you do!”
Becoming a Champion is obviously the mantle for success. A person's expectations can pave the road to individual success or failure. Because, if you think you are beaten…then you are. You've got to think high to rise before you can ever win a prize. For out in the world, you will find success begins with a person's will, it's all in a state of mind. And, sooner or later, the person who wins is the person who thinks he can!!
Develop your own personal 3 Ps:
“The Power to Pursue your Passion”
Dream BIG, make a plan of both short/long-term goals for your own personal success, execute the plan with a commitment to excellence and you will achieve in many more ways than you ever expected!
At Maritime College, we expect great things from each of our student-athletes, coaches and administrators. Your personal success begins by expecting great things of yourself as a person, a teammate, and as a leader of others.
"Leadership is . . . . . inspiring others to excel through personal courage"
Student-Athlete Statement:
The student-athlete experience at Maritime College will be guided with great emphasis on: an equitable support of all teams regardless of gender or sport, student-athlete welfare, sportsmanship, fair play and a heightened awareness of true amateurism. The experience itself is influenced by a number of factors including coaches, facilities, student-athlete services, competitive edule/conference play, as well as peer and institutional support. These components, when effectively managed, can produce a fantastic experience that can increase pride in the college and provide powerful memories integral to life-long support of the College, its athletics programs and within the Division III rules. |
