The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced on Wednesday that the Maritime football team was selected to finish in third place among its conference opponents this season, as voted on by the head coaches of the eight member schools on Tuesday. On Thursday night, at the first team meeting of the new season, Maritime football head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes and the coaching staff announced the team captains for the upcoming 2010 campaign. Maritime Football manager Vincent Young’s life dream was to attend the United States Naval Academy and become a career officer in the Marine Corps. His plan took a detour last spring when he discovered that he just missed gaining admissions to Navy. Maritime Special Teams Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach Richard Mercado has been selected by the NCAA as one of 20 college level coaches to participate in its 2010 Expert Coaches Football Academy. Last year, Coach Mercado attended the entry level Football Coaches Academy and was one of just 2 members of his class to be selected to advance to the Expert level.
