Sailing Finishes Fifth In Tom Noble Team Race

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 2, 2010) – The Maritime sailing team competed in the Tom Noble Team Race regatta at Washington College in Chestertown, Md., this past weekend. Maritime finished the event in fifth place, winning seven races over the two-day event.

 

Sailing for the Privateers were Shawn Murray (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spaulding), Will Gallagher, Leigh Ann Ferrari, Harry Scott (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis), Nicki Kelly (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols), Tyler Steel (Southwest Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island) , and Maddie Fahey.  The event was a great start to the spring season for a number of sailors and a valuable team building experience for the younger Privateers.

 

The event host's report is listed below:

 

Saturday:  44 Races were completed around a collegiate digital N.  Winds were shifty out of the NW at 5-10kts with a strong flood tide in the afternoon.

 

 

Sunday:  The second round robin was finished in a 8-12kt NW breeze with light snow then a gold/silver round robin was completed in a 5-10kt NW breeze all around a collegiate digital N for a total of 68 races.

4.  Washington College  8-9

5.  New York Maritime  7-10

6.  University of Virginia  6-11

7.  Kings Point  4-13

8.  Princeton  1-16

 

The Maritime sailing team returns to the water this coming weekend in two separate races. A group of sailors will travel to Annapolis, Md., to take part in the Graham Hall Team Race, hosted by Navy, while another group will compete in the ODU Spring Fleet Race hosted by Old Dominion University.
